Merry Christmas!

Family_5_x_7 Merry Christmas from the Trimble family! We have so much to be thankful for this holiday season. Our friends at Harvest are among the greatest gifts God has given to us. It is so fulfilling to be a part of this body of believers!

We had a great time at Harvest this morning! I always enjoy communion. Christmas is a great time for us to remember the reason the Savior came! Once we realize that Jesus came to seek and to save those who are lost, then we can understand what our purpose in life is. Tonight we will gather once more this Lord's Day for a Candlelight Service!

I'm looking forward to spending a quiet evening at home with the girls tonight. We usually jump in the car and drive all night. It will be like "Iron Chef Vallejo" in our kitchen tonight. I'm the chef this evening and I'm cooking my not-so-famous fried taters and onion's. I love it...I'm serving up spiritual food and physical food today!

Have a great Christmas!

Spiritual Goals For 2007

Bible The new year is approaching fast! Have you set some goals for your spiritual health? I want to challenge you with some worthwhile goals over the next week.

Have you ever read your Bible in a year? Healthy relationships are always built on communication. Prayer is talking to God. The Bible is God's word. If we want a healthy relationship with God it is important that we get into the book!

Maybe you have started a Bible reading plan before and for whatever reason it just fizzled out. Try again! Try reading a more contemporary version of scripture. My favorite is the New Living Translation. You might also try The Message. If you want to stay a little closer to the King James Version then you might want to try the  English Standard Version. Several of these websites have RSS feeds that will deliver a daily dose of scripture to you in your Internet browser or feed reader.

There are several Bible reading plans available. The 5 x 5 x 5 Plan allows you to read the New Testament through in one year. The Book At A Time Reading Plan allows you to read the entire Bible through in a year. Take a look at these and then go for it! Why not start getting in the habit today?

Ok! It's late! I'm feeling a little goofy! So here's a little link-love for you. This is some crazy youth pastor I ran across a while back. The Bible Rap

A Fresh Start

January is going to be an extremely important month for us at Harvest! I will be preaching a series of messages entitled "A Fresh Start". I want to speak to our members in January about the wonderful opportunity God has provided for us in American Canyon. The new year is the perfect time for us to start fresh, set new goals, and establish our priorities for the future.

Here are some things on my heart as we come to the close of 2006 and prepare for 2007...

Evangelism - We need to reach out more in the coming year. I am praying that by the end of 2007 we will have added 100 members to our congregation. We have added a second Sunday morning service to our schedule to make room and make our church more friendly to people's work schedules. We must be busy sharing God's wonderful love with those around us. Each of us know people that we can introduce to Jesus Christ! Start praying for these friends and neighbors immediately. Look for opportunities to invite everyone you know to one of our worship services or a small group Bible study.

Discipleship - Every member needs to be involved in a Bible study in 2007. Eventually, I would like to see small Bible studies available every night of the week at Harvest. Here's a quick list of what Bible studies at Harvest.

  • Men's Bible Study - Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m.
  • Pastor's Bible Study - Thursdays at 7:00 p.m.
  • Financial Peace University - Sundays at 5:00 p.m. (Starts in January)
  • New Beginnings Recovery - Sundays at 6:30 p.m. (Starts in January)
  • New Members Class - Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. (Starts in January)
  • Women's Bible Study - (TBA)
  • Couples Bible Study (TBA)

Equipping - One of my goals for 2007 is start providing training for those involved in or interested in getting involved in ministry. Workshops, conferences, and classes designed to equip God's people to do ministry in the local church. I am always encouraged when I go to some conference or seminar and get a little training to help me as a pastor. I want our volunteers here at Harvest to understand how important their role is in this ministry and provide equipping experiences for them.

Financial Stability - A few years ago we took a huge step of faith and purchased our current property. We have met the challenge each year but it has been a struggle. It doesn't need to be a struggle. God has a plan to finance the ministry of the local church. The plan is simply for God's people to bring their tithes and offerings to the church. God has blessed our families so much over the past several years. He has blessed them spiritually, emotionally, physically, and financially. If God's people would honor Him with the tithe, the church would not struggle to meet it's obligations. By the way, we are the church...therefore these obligations are ours! We need a fresh commitment to giving in 2007!

A Five-Star Atmosphere - We need to start focusing on improving the facilities God has provided for us. We need to clean up and dress up our property from the inside out. God's house should be the best kept house on the street. I am pretty sure that most of us take pride in our homes and living spaces. The church is a big part of our lives too! We should want to convey to the community that we take pride in what God has given to us as a church. There are many things that we can do right away that will cost us very little but have a huge impact. Let's get busy and start building some momentum!

I know that I'm rambling! Sorry! Any of this make sense?

Financial Peace...It's Possible!

Fpu_logo_with_crest_2  I am excited about Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University coming to Harvest in January. There will be a free preview on Thursday, December 21st at 7:00 p.m.  and again on January 7th 2007 at 5:00 p.m. I want to encourage every family to enroll in the 13 week class. I am considering offering this class on two nights to make sure everyone can participate.

Here are some alarming statistics take from Dave Ramsey's website WWW.DaveRamsey.com

1. Marital Problems - 37 percent (the highest rate) of marital problems derive from financial situations

2. Cash Flow - 70 percent of all consumers live paycheck to paycheck, meaning they run out of money before the end of the month

3. Savings - The average family would have to use a credit card to pay a $1,500 unexpected expense (ex: home or car repair).

4. Retirement - Nearly half of all Americans (46%) have less than $10,000 saved for their retirement.

It is a problem that affects everyone, inside and outside of the church.  In fact George Barna says that the fastest growing churches are teaching about marriage, child rearing, finances, and careers.  Money is a serious subject, and God is serious about money, which is why we should study closely what he has to tell us.

Good Tidings Of Great Joy

Dsc_5150I got word from the Bradley's today that Henry's surgery was successful. The doctors had planned on replacing a valve in his heart but were able to repair instead of replace. Praise the Lord!

I received our newsletter for this Sunday last night and the news was already on the front page, "Henry Bradley's Surgery Was A Success". I told Shelly, his daughter-in-law, that that meant everything would be alright, after all it was already in print. Today, I was thinking about Hebrews 11:1, "What is Faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see."

Outlaw's Lady, our miniature horse who has been waking me up early lately has redeemed herself this weekend. She is participating in 3 Living Nativities around town this weekend. Lots of kids smiling and free hay! She is thrilled!

The Harvest youth are coming over tonight for BBQ ribs. They are doing their annual progressive dinner tonight. Our youth leaders are doing an awesome job. This Sunday night is a special youth service and I am excited about getting to speak to the teens.

Finally, I want to remind all of our men that Tuesday night is "MAN NIGHT: Pizza and Prayer" and I am fired up about getting together with the men of Harvest! We have some great men in our church and it's time to get organized and busy serving the Lord. Be there! Bring a friend! Let's have a wonderful evening together.

Right now though...I have to go hide some BBQ ribs before the teens get here and devour them all.

Looking Forward

Fpu_logo_with_crest I'm very excited about a few things coming up! First, is MAN NIGHT! Yeah Baby! Pizza and Prayer in the fellowship hall on December 12th at 7:00 p.m. The world desperately needs men, Godly men, to step up and be counted! I really believe that if the men in our churches today would get serious about serving God we would see revival in America like never before. If you are looking for a good read on being men of God POINT MAN by Steve Farar is at the top of my list.

I'm also looking forward to January when we will be kicking off our Financial Peace University with Dave Ramsey. Mr Ramsey was a guest on Focus on the Family with Dr. James Dobson this week. You can listen to the show HERE. Financial Peace University is a 13 week course that will provide you with the information needed to find peace in the area of finances. I hope that every household at Harvest will take advantage of this awesome opportunity. If we hDsc_5046_copyave financially healthy families we will have a financially healthy church. A financially healthy church has the resources to reach it's world for Christ.

Oh! Did you hear? Adults beat the teens in Turkey Bowl II this past Sunday. It was close though. I think the final score was 77-7. Sorry! Just had to rub it in a little. Photos are posted at www.HarvestFWB.com

Blue Christmas

I had a good time at church Sunday. Our new weekly newsletter came out. We had visitors in the service, and the music was off the hook. The message was entitled, 'How to Avoid a Blue Christmas". Depression is awful and is common around the holidays. I mentioned the book Happiness is a Choice in my message.  This book was one of the tools I have used personally. If you or someone you love battles depression I would highly recommend this book. Very informative and written from a Christian perspective.

Keep Henry Bradley in your prayers! He is having another test run today in San Francisco. I did catch him eating apple pie last night at the hospital. Lisa smuggled it past the nurses check point and made Henry's day.

Kudos To Scott and Bob!

Cjfootball_1 Great Bible study tonight! We talked about '10 Things To Remember When You're Tired'. We all get tired from time to time but it important that we not give up. Reason number 9 was, "don't forget that we are renewed every day" 2 Corinthians 4:15-18. Each day God renews us and re-energizes us.

Tomorrow is going to be a great day! CJ Rupp is back from boot camp for the weekend! He's also available for Turkey Bowl II this Sunday afternoon. I think the Adults will have no problem putting a hurt on the teens this year! Yeah Baby!

Scott Corey and Bob Harmon have been busy putting together our new newsletter format and are ready with the first issue. You guys are awesome! I'm like a kid at Christmas who can't wait to open presents. Can't wait any longer to see it. (Download 2006Dec3.final.pdf ) This design will be a nice newsletter to use as a tool to invite your friends to church, or to drop off to those who missed a service. I'm really jazzed!

Keep Henry Bradley in your prayers. His doctors are still waiting on test results to diagnose him. I went by to check on him before Bible study tonight and he counted out 14 spots where he had been poked with needles. What a trooper. I hate needles! But hey, they keep on bringing him the mac and cheese. Yummy! I think we need to hook him up with some of Gracie's BBQ ribs as soon as he is released.

Oh My Goodness!

Dsc_4947_1

I was out visiting some of the men from Harvest last night. We are having a Pizza and Prayer Night for men on Tuesday December 12th at 7:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall. I want to get a copy of a message by Perry Noble into every man's hands and then be able to talk about the message that night. My last visit was to Gracie's BBQ on the corner of Sonoma Blvd. and Virginia St. in Vallejo. One of our young men, Zach, is the manager there. Zach hooked me up with some BBQ and all I can say is, "Oh My Goodness!". Gracie's has probably the best ribs I've ever had. Unbelievable! I'm SO glad I was out doing the Lord's work last night. Check this place out if you get a chance.
