There Is Beauty Beyond Our Senses

Then the angel showed me a river with the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. It flowed down the center of the main street. On each side of the river grew a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, with a fresh crop each month. The leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations. ~ Revelation 22:1–2 (NLT)

The beauty around us at times is breathtaking. Spring in the rolling hills of Napa and Solano County is a sight to behold. Lush green fields, explosions of wild flowers, well manicured vineyards, and amazing trees making their comeback after winter all work together to impress. How sad it is that our lifestyles are so fast paced at times that we pass all of these things almost daily and rarely take the time to appreciate the beauty of God's creation.

"But as it is written, "What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those that love Him". ~ 1 Corinthians 2:9

The Apostle Paul tells us that there are things that God has for those that love Him that are beautiful beyond our earthly senses. Things so beautiful they cannot be seen with the human eye, so wondrous they cannot be detected by human ears, and so amazing that the mind of man cannot even imagine them. There are things that can only be revealed to us through the Spirit of God.

It would be a tragedy if we allowed our fast paced lifestyles to prevent us from appreciating "what God has prepared for those that love Him". We must be sure to slow our lives down enough to "stand still" and see the beauty God desires to reveal to us. We need to spend time in His Word. We need to dwell in His presence and listen for His "still small voice" speak to our hearts. We need to be sensitive to His wonderful Holy Spirit when He calls out to us.

"It Is The Lord Who Stirs Up The Sea..."

Who Stirs Up The Sea, originally uploaded by Calpastor.

I packed an ice chest with salami, cheese, sourdough bread, and of course Coca Cola, picked up Kathy, and made it to this beautiful spot just north of Bodega Bay just as the sun disappeared. Day and night, all nature testifies of God's greatness!

The constant rushing sound of the wind and the thunder of waves crashing against the rocks speak very clearly to my soul. Their message is very loud and clear, "He is God, and He is in control!". As large and powerful as the oceans are, they are in submission to their creator. He stirs up the sea and causes the waves to crash against the rocks and yet He restrains them and keeps them in their place.

God is in control! Aren't you glad for that?

Have A Great Sunday!

"Jesus Died And Was Raised To Life Again"

A Welcome Return, originally uploaded by Calpastor.

"...I worship the God of our fathers, believing everything laid down by the Law and written in the Prophets, having a hope in God, which these men themselves accept, that there will be a resurrection of both the just and the unjust." Acts 24:14–15 (ESV)

I wait with eager anticipation each year for the return of these beautiful irises. Once the poppies have filled the flower box outside my office door with their majestic gold color the irises appear in their royal purple glory. I usually don't notice the irises until their flowers burst open. This year however, I have been watching them every day for the past several weeks. I know they are coming and it won't be long.

There is a resurrection day coming soon!

And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died. We tell you this directly from the Lord: We who are still living when the Lord returns will not meet him ahead of those who have died. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever. So encourage each other with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18 (NLT)

Apples On The Way

Apples On The Way, originally uploaded by Calpastor.

The apple tree is beautiful before it ever provides us with it's first piece of fruit. A new believer is an amazing thing to watch and before they ever produce fruit there are some amazing and beautiful transformations that take place. Focus on 'abiding' in Christ and the fruit will come.

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. ~ John 15:4–5 (ESV)

Just a thought!

Flowers Of Hope Sprang Up

Flowers Of Hope Sprang Up, originally uploaded by Calpastor.

I was driving Highway One this past week and ran across this lovely old cemetery at Fort Ross just north of Jenner. The thing that captured my attention were these amazing Russian Orthodox crosses, about a hundred of these beautiful crosses on a hill overlooking the Pacific. The field was covered with these stunning purple Iris that just added so much to the scene. It brought the words to an old southern gospel song to mind.

"Love grew, where the blood fell
flowers of hope sprang up for men in misery
sin died, where the blood fell
and I'm so glad His precious blood now covers me."

Looking forward to a great week serving the Lord!

Finding The Right One: Advice From A Lucky Guy

I have been so blessed by God. He gave me 'the right one' almost 25 years ago and each and every year I learn just how right she is for me. I'll admit, it was hard at first to see past all that outer beauty (hotness) and see how beautiful she really was but her inner beauty was so amazingly beautiful that it shined through. She's the kind of woman that just gets more beautiful year after year. I can't take all the credit for recognizing her as 'the right one', God pretty much just said, "Here you go!" and I'm so glad that I listened.

I was talking to one of the men from Harvest the other day and he asked me, "How do you know when the right one comes along?". My first response, "The right what?". Then we proceeded to discuss the subject of finding the right mate. It really is a very important question and I'm afraid not enough people think about it in advance which can lead to big trouble. Too many have just settled for "the first one that comes along" and ended up with the "wrong one". Does that make any sense?

I'm sure we could really make this complicated if we tried real hard but I'm not real impressed with long complicated answers and most people probably aren't either. I thought I would share the answer I gave to this brother while drinking Coke Zero and driving down the highway 37. Simple two part answer.

First, I told him, you need to get a very clear picture of what 'the right guy' should look like and then spend the majority of your time working on becoming the 'right guy'. What does God say a man should act walk and talk like? What does the Bible say about how a man should treat a woman? What is the Biblical role that God has given to the husband? Dig into the Word of God and become a genuine, Christ following, Spirit filled, man of God. And remember...spend the bulk of your time working on becoming 'the right guy' not out looking for 'the right woman'.

Next, I told him, you need to get a very clear picture of what 'the right woman' should look like. What does God say a woman should walk and talk like? How does the Bible say a woman should behave? How should she dress? What is the Biblical role that God has given to the wife? Study God's Word and see what a Christ following, Spirit filled, Godly woman should look like. Don't worry so much about outward beauty, look into the heart and see what God sees. Once you have a clear vision of what 'the right woman' should look like, you'll be able to recognize her when God sends her along.

And again, remember...spend the bulk of your time working on becoming 'the right guy' not going out looking for 'the right woman'. God will send her along at 'the right time'. When He does...When He says, "Here you go!"...Listen to Him! He knows what He's doing. He's been match making since...well, since Adam and Eve.

Have a great weekend!
