Couple's Advance ~ One More Night

6a00d83452205b69e20120a5bd1c05970b Pastor Cliff Donoho taught two great sessions at our Couple's Advance tonight at Harvest. Great crowd and wonderful spirit. We have one more night to go. Tomorrow night we're meeting at Margarita's Mexican Restaurant (901 Redwood Street Vallejo, Ca. 94590) at 6:30 for the final sessions. We'd love to have you join us if your available.

Pastor Cliff has graciously provided the notes to the final session HERE

Areas Of Improvement In 2010

Sign_Do_Not_Feed_The_Bears I am thoroughly enjoying ministry at the moment. So many things seem to be going so right. I'm sure there are things that we could and should be doing better and we are actively examining everything we do at Harvest and working to improve. One area that I'm focused on right now is improving the pastor, and here's where I'm headed with that...I'm working on losing weight and getting in shape. This is a priority for me in 2010 and I'm convinced that I'll be more effective in ministry by doing so. Keep me in your prayers!

"Or didn’t you realize that your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy Spirit? Don’t you see that you can’t live however you please, squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical part of you is not some piece of property belonging to the spiritual part of you. God owns the whole works. So let people see God in and through your body." 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

I'm hitting the gym and back on my bike this year and enjoying it. It's too easy for me to put off exercise so that I have time for other things. I'm reminded of the old mechanics advice though, "You can pay me now or pay me later" and believe that whatever time I invest in maintaining my health right now will give me a longer more productive ministry in the years to come. I'm finding that once I'm at the gym...I like it. I leave feeling great and pretty much stress free.

I'm also watching what I eat and why I eat. I used to consider myself a 'stress eater' and unfortunately the ministry is filled with stressful moments. But here's what I've discovered...any reason to eat will do. We tend to eat when we're stressed, when we're happy, when we're bored, when we're mad, when we're celebrating, when we're mourning. Sometime we just eat because it looks and tastes good. How often do we just eat because we're hungry? So, I'm trying to get a hold on eating to refuel the body and find better ways to deal with all those other things. I'm sure that I won't be able to keep pace with the contestants on NBC's The Biggest Loser and that's alright as long as I am making progress I'll be just fine.

So, now that I have that out on the table...keep me in your prayers! I'm also looking for a sign that says "Don't Feed The Pastor" to hang in my office.

The Sevens Men's Bible Study

Bible Our men have been meeting on Wednesday nights at 8:00 for fellowship and Bible study. We call the study The Sevens because in each lesson we close with seven passages of scripture dealing with that night's topic. The challenge is for the men to share those passages with others during the next seven days.

This week the topic was 'The Weaker Vessel' and one of the seven passages was Romans 12:9-21. I'm still reading this passage over and over today. It lays out how God intends us to treat people. Last night I challenged the guys to write the passage out and put their wife's name into the passage.

For example...Verse 10 "Love KATHY with genuine love, and take delight in honoring her"

Try it out! Let me know what you think.

"Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them. Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all! Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say,“I will take revenge;I will pay them back,”says the Lord. Instead,“If your enemies are hungry, feed them.If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. In doing this, you will heapburning coals of shame on their heads.” Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good." Romans 12:9-21

First Sunday

Our first worship service of 2010 is just about an hour away. I'm praying, as always, for a great time in God's house. Prayer will be a major part of today's service. Jesus said, "My house shall be called a house of prayer". Praying for spiritual needs, physical and emotional healing, financial stability, and more. Let's make sure that at the end of 2010 it can't be said, "you have not because you ask not".
Gotta Run!
