2008 Tour De France Crash Off Cliff In The Alps
I am currently reading John Maxwell's 'The Twenty-One Most Powerful Minutes In A Leaders Day' for my personal devotions. Today, the subject was 'Leadership Is Influence'. Joshua and Caleb were leaders from their tribes in Israel yet they were not able to influence Israel to enter into the promised land.
Joshua and Caleb knew where God wanted Israel to go. They knew that God would give them the necessary victories. They could not however convince Israel to move forward. I think most pastors can identify with Joshua and Caleb. There are times we have a clear understanding of where God wants to take us and we have the faith that God will give us victory over the obstacle but we just can't convince our people to move forward.
"Many people who experience ineffectiveness as leaders give up and never try to lead again. Fortunately for the children of Israel, Joshua was not that type of person. He desired to become a better leader. And he would later receive a second chance. Meanwhile, he continued to be faithful to God and to learn as much as he could from Moses, who became his mentor." John Maxwell
If God has called you to do something don't give up! If you fail on your first attempt try again. Take time to learn. Get a mentor! Be ready when God gives you your second chance.
I rode my bike around Napa today! (new shifters and wheels) Great ride!
I was amazed at how beautiful our area really is. I've been watching the Tour de France for the past two weeks and I honestly think the French have nothing on us when it comes to beautiful places to ride.
I wonder how many times we fly through the day and never take time to notice the beauty that God has surrounded us with.
We have suspended our Sunday evening services in Vacaville. I still have a desire to plant a new church in the Vacaville area and will continue to work on building a 'planting team' and then a 'core group' there. Meanwhile, I will be dedicating the time I have allotted for Vacaville to a few other areas. Thank you to our Harvest families who have made the Sunday night trips over the past few months. I know that God was and is in what we are doing. Your faithfulness will not go unrewarded.
I am more committed than ever to the mission of reaching the lost with the gospel. We are not called to operate our churches as museums but rather as birthing and training centers. God help us when our greatest concern becomes "Have It My Way" rather than showing people "the Way".
We will be scheduling a baptism service at Bodega Bay in the month of August. If you have accepted Christ and have not yet been baptized please contact me and we can discuss baptism. Believer's Baptism is such an important part of our walk with Christ.
We will begin a video series here at Harvest entitled, "Just Walk Across The Room" by Bill Hybels. I had the opportunity to preview this series a while back and was very moved by Hybels' passion for reaching the lost. Everyone of us, as Christ followers has a responsibility to be a witness for Christ. This series will equip you to do just that.
See you Sunday!
"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." Proverbs 3:5-6
The bottom line is "he shall direct thy paths". As long as I trust Him with my whole heart, "He shall direct my paths". Even when I don't understand, 'He shall direct my paths". If I acknowledge Him, "He shall direct my paths".
Thank God for memory verses we learned in Sunday school!
Keep Scott Hanes in your prayers today. He is having the first of several surgeries related ultimately to a kidney transplant. Today is supposed to be an in and out procedure but it looks like he may stay an extra day due to the condition of his kidneys.
I sat in my office last night and just thought about all that was happening around me at that moment.
- We had a ton of children moving from class to class enjoying Vacation Bible School.
- There were at least 6 who gave their lives to Christ this week.
- We had a bunch of workers from two different churches working together all week to pull off this year's VBS.
- The sounds of one of our two Spanish Churches singing "Gloria, Gloria, Hallelujia" were coming through my office walls.
- I was gathering my thoughts to speak to our Vacaville Church Men's Breakfast on Saturday morning.
Kathy walked in, sat down and said, "You know God has to be pleased with all that is happening around here". I agree! It's so exciting to be a part of God's work.
I'm loving NeedToBreath's song 'Washed By The Water'. That's what's playing in my truck these days. Check it out!
There are lots of questions that run through our minds each and every day. Who? What? Where? When? Why? How?
Today the question was "What?". What is God doing? What does He have planned? What is He thinking? What does He want from me?
Tonight, as I sat at my journal, the only answer I can come up with is Isaiah 55:8-9
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
It doesn't have to make sense to us to be right!
