Put A '10' On Everyone's Head

Maxwell_sm One of my favorite authors and speakers is Dr. John Maxwell. I have a shelf full of his leadership books, and yes I do read them. His leadership stuff is just amazing. I read and listen as much as possible and hope that something sticks. Today, I started re-reading 'The 21 Indispensable Qualities A Leader' and it's as good as the first time. Here's a great tidbit...

Put A '10' On Everyone's Head
One of the best things you can do for people - which also attracts them to you - is to expect the best of them. I call it putting a '10' on everyone's head. It helps others think more highly of themselves, and at the same time, it helps you. According to Jacques Wiesel, "A survey of one hundred self-made millionaires showed only one common denominator.
These highly successful men and women could only see the good in people."

Benjamin Disraeli, former Prime Minister of England, once said, "The greatest good you can do for another is not just share your riches but to reveal to him his own." If you appreciate others, encourage them, and help them reach their potential, they will love you for it.

I absolutely love the sentence about highly successful men and women only seeing the good in people. It's amazing how very good we are at keeping at inventory of the bad in people. I wonder how much more successful many of us would be if we started seeing 'only the good' in people. Would we be better mates, parents, teachers, pastors, businessmen?

Surround Yourself With The Right People

Just a thought that crossed my mind today as I admired this lovely Dandelion outside our church...

"Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm." Proverbs 13:20

It's amazing how an ordinary person can really appear to be extraordinary simply by surrounding themselves with the right people.

Monday ~ Good Stuff

Holdingpeacebyhowe Monday gets a bum rap sometimes! Just about everyone hates Mondays. The truth is Mondays are generally pretty tough on pastors. Sundays can just drain you and then Monday comes along just being itself and we just take everything out on poor Monday. I want to go on record and give Monday a High-Five today! Great job Monday!

This past week someone I have respected through the years chose to handle conflict with the most childish and fleshly rhetoric, and I was just sure Monday would come along and kick me while I was down, but it didn't. Monday actually encouraged me and strengthened my faith. I actually had someone drop by the church to practice forgiveness and reconciliation. This week is now looking pretty good!

The Word of God has all of the answers that we are looking for. It's all there, we just have to choose to practice what we read. Today, God was honored.

Thanks Dr. Phil! ~ I Don't Feel So Bad Now!

Images Dr. Phil got a taste of this pastor's world on Thursday night. A family who attended our church in the past made an appearance on his television show. They even made mention of a fist fight that took place at church. I really wouldn't call it a fight, one guy threw a punch and the other guy practiced restraint and walked away. Ministry today can get pretty ugly sometimes.

The good doctor didn't do any better than I did with the this particular drama. My heart still aches for this family as they struggle with some very strange family issues. I have spoken to the family recently and continue to pray for them to find the peace that has eluded them for quite a while now. Jesus could speak to the raging seas and say "Peace, be still!" and the seas obeyed and I know without a doubt that he can bring peace to any situation you and I face.

The Storms Only Serve To Make You More Beautiful

I'm not usually that impressed with the Cala Lily but today they caught my eye. The rain seems to have washed these flowers up and made them stand out more than usual. The water drops reflected light in a way that enhanced the beauty of this lily. It's amazing how the rain can come in and make everything look, smell, and even feel better.

I guess the storms of life are a lot like that too. We dread their coming and anticipate their leaving. God uses the storms of life to clean us up and make us shine more than normal.

James 1:2-4 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Two Of My Many Blessings

Valentine Shirt Contest, originally uploaded by CalPastor.

I often remind our church of the old hymn "Count Your Blessings" and among my many blessing are Noah and Robert, our two youngest students at American Canyon Christian Academy. These two guys are crazy! There is no possible way to get bored with these two always finding ways to make each day an adventure.

Sometimes we get so busy and stressed with all that needs to be done that we forget what a blessing it is to be able to invest in the lives of others!

Lisa Myer, Noah's Mom, did an awesome job this past week with our student's Valentine's Day party! THANK YOU LISA!

This week we're having an overnight homework club that will include 2 - Home Ec Projects, 5 - Science Projects, 3 Dozen - Krispy Kreme Donuts, 2 - Math Games, and some serious Guitar Hero action! Thursday night will be a blast!

Getting Ready For Sunday

Getting Ready For Sunday, originally uploaded by CalPastor.

I love to hit the office early on Sundays with my Allan's ESV Bible and a non-fat latte. There is nothing better than having coffee with the Lord before you start your day.

The President of California Christian College, Wendall Walley, spoke at Harvest today. This allowed me to relax and enjoy some quiet time this morning before church and then I got to sit with my lovely wife during the service. Wendall delivered an excellent message!

I'm speaking in El Sobrante, Ca. tonight at 6:00 p.m.

Ribs My mouth is watering just thinking about our upcoming Man Night here at Harvest in March. Scott Myer and his assistants will be putting together a wonderful BBQ Rib Dinner for our men that night. Dinner will be $10 per man. See Scott Myer or Bob Harmon to sign up.

Pastor Eric Thompson from Fairfield, Ca. will speak to our men that night. Eric has returned to California after working in Bend, Oregon and attending Multnoma School. Eric is a gifted speaker and is sure to challenge and excite our men!

34570769_d28134afb5_o Our Ladies Night Out this month will be awesome! The theme is 'Loving One Another' and will hopefully challenge our ladies to reach out to one another and share the Love of Christ in practical ways.

Dinner will be a Salad Bar and a very special dessert.

This is also the time to reveal to your Secret Sisters. Be creative and thoughtful in your revealing. We'll be talking about Secret Sisters during the evening and will announce a few changes to this very fun program.

Pastor will announce more on this even on Sunday. See you there!
